Countryside Kitchens

Just before Christmas we were delighted to launch a new website and brand identity for Countryside Kitchens based in Kelso.

Following our “Launch early, refine often” talk at FOWA back in September. We decided to launch the new Countryside Kitchens website in a very basic state, to give them a live presence over Christmas, and a chance to get some feedback from people while we work on some of the more advanced features like the Gallery and Accessories pages.

The site needed to communicate the personality of founders Shona & Jerry Ponder and we spent a lot of time on the copy. The next thing was to develop a very intuitive browse-able gallery. It’s amazing how many designers throw in a simple Ajax light box which is actually not ideal for quickly browsing a few dozen images.  You need thumbnails and you need them to load quickly.

Feedback welcome

Nice layout and bright welcoming home page – the layout links nicely to the idea of how a kitchen is stacked with draws and cupboards of different sizes that complement each other as a whole. One idea would be to make the main front top image a slow smooth slideshow as the page seems a little static? The gallery works very well and your totally right about lightbox and its uses.
