Apple explores context specific mobile content

When you think about this, its going to be just like when you access a wireless hotspot and you get the login page.

apple patent

All of a sudden, you can order drinks and have them brought over, or request a song on the duke box…

I like the thought of this on an iPhone, but not on any other device… loads of implications as to whether this could really work or not from a systems integration point of view. If everyone in the world had iPhones then it would be ok, but its going to be pretty difficult to roll out a lot of this stuff with equal opportunities for both non techy and hi-tech users…

imagine being in ikea, and getting an uptodate inventory of all the stock, or a clothes shop, etc. Even in a shoe shop, find a shoe, type in the code and then see a list of sizes and alternatives for that shop. Then click buy, and go to the counter, get a number on your phone and when they call your number its there waiting for you. Somewhere like Argos would be ideal for this. At Christmas I went in there and spent 15 mins waiting for a terminal, and then having to manually search through a catalogue, then realise i didnt have a pen to write the number down, and when i got one, someone had taken my terminal…arrrgggghh.

I can feel the draw of the iPhone already, but i’ll hold off for 3G now i think! (what discipline)
